UPDATED 1.6.2009

Cubase is great! I've been getting comfortable with it. It is Cubase SX 2 (an older version, fully updated, but they are up to SX 4 now.) I've been playing around with some bass tracks. Also experimenting with Hypersonic and a bunch of other VST instruments with my current midi controller. Very old, very limited. New one on the way though! A Yamaha KX 25. Set up to work seemlessly with Cubase and Hypersonic as well as a host of other VST instruments. I am looking forward to using the KX along the my bass to begin laying down some foundations to start building on. Stay tuned...

Got my hands on the KX25 midi controller yesterday. So I said, and I was quoting from the Yamaha website, that the KX25 would work seemlessly with Cubase. It does work seemlessly with the bundled version of Cubase AI 4. But that's a "lite" version. I have full blown Cubase SX 2 which, if I'm correct, is not compatible (so much) with the older version. I will deal with the limitations of AI 4 while i consider upgrading to the latest full version of Cubase.

Since dusting things off, knocking off rust, and reading a bunch of manuals, I still have not really laid down any serious tracks. Just doing a bunch of playing/messing around and working out some ideas. What's important is I've been at it since I got all this set back up.

The kids have been loving the access to Roland/Hart Dynamics drum kit, the ability to plug in and jam the WeeVee (mini Flying V) and the keyboards. Wait till I get my acoustic drum kit set back up. That's gonna blow their minds. I am not pushing them to play, but they are gravitating to it anyway. Right now I'm just letting them to do their own thing. Banging around, experimenting, having fun. If they want to take it beyond that, they'll ask me to start showing them stuff.

Noah has been making the most of it out of the 2 kids. He's been loving the drums. He plays them just about every day. I've been on them for about an hour a day also.

Playing and recording is going to be my winter project. Stay tuned for some original tracks...
